Alternative Provision & EOTAS Support
At Lighthouse Tuition South-West, we provide flexible, personalised Alternative Provision and EOTAS support for children and young people who are unable to access traditional education in a way that safely or effectively meets their needs.
We understand that every family’s journey into Alternative Provision or EOTAS is different. For many parents and carers, the process can feel emotionally exhausting, confusing and isolating. Our role is not only to provide high-quality educational support, but also to guide families through the wider process with understanding, consistency and professional collaboration.
Our provision is centred around helping children feel safe, understood and able to re-engage with learning in a way that reflects their individual needs, strengths and circumstances.
What is Alternative Provision?
Alternative Provision refers to education arranged for children and young people who are unable to access full-time mainstream education for a variety of reasons. This may include children with SEND, emotionally based school avoidance, anxiety, medical needs, trauma, behavioural difficulties or children whose current educational placement is no longer appropriate.
Alternative Provision should provide a personalised and supportive educational approach that enables children to continue learning while their wider needs are understood and supported.
At Lighthouse Tuition South-West, we offer flexible provision that is tailored to the child’s individual profile and can be adapted over time as needs and confidence change.
What is EOTAS?
Education Otherwise Than At School (EOTAS) is educational provision arranged by a local authority for children whose needs cannot reasonably be met within a school environment, even with additional support.
EOTAS is typically considered when a child’s SEND, mental health, medical or developmental needs mean that attending school is no longer suitable or sustainable. Provision can include therapeutic support, specialist tuition, life skills, community-based learning and highly personalised educational programmes delivered outside of a traditional school setting.
For many families, understanding EOTAS and navigating the process of requesting or securing appropriate provision can feel overwhelming.
We work closely with families throughout the process, helping them understand their options while providing educational support that reflects the child’s individual needs and wellbeing.
A Trusted & Established Provider

Lighthouse Tuition South-West is an experienced and trusted provider of Alternative Provision and EOTAS support. We have worked alongside families, schools, SENCOs, local authorities and external professionals to support children with a wide range of educational, emotional and developmental needs.
Our tutors understand that children accessing Alternative Provision or EOTAS often require far more than academic support alone. Many children have experienced anxiety, burnout, school trauma, unmet SEND needs or long periods of disengagement from education.
Our approach focuses on rebuilding trust, confidence and emotional safety alongside meaningful educational progress. We take time to understand each child as an individual and create provision that is realistic, flexible and responsive to their needs.
We recognise that children learn best in environments where they feel safe and able to engage. For this reason, our provision can be delivered in a variety of settings depending on the needs of the child and family.
We can provide support:
-
Within your child’s school
-
At home
-
At one of our learning hubs
-
Within community settings where appropriate
This flexibility allows us to create personalised programmes that reduce barriers to learning and help children access education in a way that feels manageable and supportive.
Sessions can focus on academic learning, emotional regulation, confidence building, functional skills, engagement with learning or preparation for reintegration where appropriate.
Our team works closely with families throughout the entire process, helping to provide consistency, communication and professional educational input. We aim to reduce pressure on parents and carers wherever possible while ensuring that the child remains at the centre of all discussions and planning.
Where appropriate, we can support families with:
-
Educational observations and progress summaries
-
Supporting letters and reports
-
Attendance at professional meetings
-
EHCP annual reviews
-
Liaison with schools and local authorities
-
Communication with external agencies and professionals
-
