Sophie

Founder & Tutor at Lighthouse Tuition South-West
Hi, I’m Sophie, the founder of Lighthouse Tuition and a qualified primary teacher with a background in dance, community work and SEND support.

I started my career in community dance, which took me all over the world using movement to empower young people. After retraining as a teacher, I worked in both mainstream and specialist schools, where I found my true passion: supporting children who learn differently.

Now, through Lighthouse Tuition, I get to offer creative, personalised support that helps children build confidence in a way that works for them. My sessions are playful, flexible, and always centred around the individual child.

When I’m not tutoring, I’m usually out in nature, pottering about in my campervan, or enjoying a cuppa with my dog at my feet!

Tilly
Tutor at Lighthouse Tuition South-West
Hi, I’m Tilly! Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a teacher – so as soon as I left school, I jumped straight into a BEd in Primary Education at Plymouth, specialising in Early Childhood Studies. I’m passionate about early learning – especially reading, writing, number skills, and learning through play.

I’ve taught across the primary age range, but my heart has always been with the little ones. My background in nurseries and preschools helps me support early development and explain tricky concepts in a way that makes sense to little learners.

Outside tutoring, I’m usually out walking my dog Piper or exploring the beaches and moorland of the South West. I’m an animal lover - I’d turn my house into a smallholding tomorrow if my husband would let me (so far, he’s only agreed to one dog and three fish!). I also love travelling and have made it my mission to visit every continent – just Oceania and Antarctica left to go!

Nina
Tutor at Lighthouse Tuition South-West
Hi, I'm Nina! I have been a primary school teacher for 16 years and am now very happy to be part of the Lighthouse Tuition team. I have taught in London, Tavistock, Plymouth and Japan! I love working with kids and helping them to learn. Alongside the actual learning, happiness and self-esteem are so important for our children. With this in mind, my aim is for all of my pupils to achieve in a fun way that leaves them feeling good about themselves and what they have achieved. It's the best job in the world! My wonderful children keep me smiling, along with our fish, cat and tortoise, Cookie.

Chloe
Tutor at Lighthouse Tuition South-West
Hello! I’m Chloe, a warm and supportive tutor who loves helping children build confidence and enjoy learning. I tailor every session to suit your child’s needs, making learning fun, engaging, and just the right level of challenge. I have experience supporting children across a range of ages and abilities, and I aim to help each learner feel proud of what they achieve. Outside of tutoring, I love dancing, running, and spending time with my two playful rabbits. I believe in celebrating effort, building self-belief, and creating a positive learning environment where children feel safe, happy, and ready to grow.

Chris
Tutor at Lighthouse Tuition South-West
Hello, I'm Chris! I’m really excited to be offering tutoring and I want my lessons to be as fun, interactive and playful as possible. Over my decade of teaching I’ve been privileged to have seen so many amazing children flourish their needs are met and they are in the right environment. My goal is to create a space where every child feels safe, motivated, entertained and happy.

Outside of teaching you’ll usually find me enjoying sport, especially football. I’m a big Manchester United fan and I’m still hoping to see them lift the Premier League trophy again in my lifetime. I also love going to the cinema, reading, listening to music and hiking (especially if there’s a cosy village pub waiting at the end!)
At home I share my life with two very cuddly cats, Nox and Lumos, who spend most of their days sleeping, eating and being cute.

Emily
Tutor at Lighthouse Tuition South-West
Hello there! I’m Emily! I’m a primary school teacher of 11 years and have taught from EYFS-Year 4 in mainstream and specialist settings. I have a passion for helping children with SEND achieve, and ensuring I am a fully inclusive teacher! I have my SENCO qualification and am always looking for ways to learn more about SEND! My lessons in school and my tutoring sessions are playful and designed to tap into the child’s interests and to develop a play based approach to my sessions. Every child learns differently and at a different pace so lessons need to be unique and tailored to meet the child’s needs.
I have recently published my first children’s book (second one is in production!) and I have loved visiting schools showing them that the children can do what they dream! I love challenging myself and have completed the London marathon in recent years. I want my own children to look up to Mummy and know they can do what they put their mind to. Children are at the heart of everything I do and my aim is to make a positive difference to little lives.

Mel
Tutor at Lighthouse Tuition South-West
Hello, I'm Mel and I just love being a teacher.
My specialism is early years, but I have experience in all Primary year groups. I've taught in Bath, Bristol, Wolverhampton, Plymouth and Australia! I know that happy children make good learners, so communication, the right setting and trust is vital is building the positive relationships required. I'm a friendly and supportive teacher and work hard to create fun, practical and engaging lessons in a safe environment.

I have considerable experience working with SEND and children with diverse needs. I'm flexible and adaptable, enabling every child to both enjoy and achieve in sessions. I'm a great believer that we all learn through play, whatever our age! My ultimate aim is for each child to become a confident, independent learner who is curious and questions the world around them.

Jayne
Admin at Lighthouse Tuition South-West
Hello, I'm Jayne and I am a remote admin assistant for Lighthouse Tuition South-West.
I am a qualified primary teacher, currently working towards my accreditation in British Sign Language and running my own business. I am the Chairman of my local junior football team and love supporting children to access sporting opportunities.
I am AuDHD and have neurodivergent children, which has educated me on lots of processes surrounding SEND, including the EHCP process, advocating for the child's voice and accessing diagnoses and support.

You may see me at some of the Lighthouse holiday clubs as I travel from Northumberland to help out (and have some fun). I'm always on-hand to help with any queries you send to the Lighthouse inbox too.
