Hello from Lighthouse!

Welcome to our first ever newsletter!

It might be the school holidays, but we’re still here, supporting our amazing learners through fun, flexible sessions all summer long!

For those of you we won’t see over the break, we hope you have a fabulous, restful summer and we can’t wait to welcome you back in September. For those joining us for our group sessions or 1-to-1s... get ready to party on with learning, games and loads of fun!

A new face in the team!

We’re so excited to welcome Chloe to the Lighthouse Tuition team!

Chloe brings a warm, creative energy to her sessions and has a real passion for supporting young learners in a way that builds confidence and sparks joy. She currently works full time as a Primary School Teacher and brings with her a passion for dancing and running. She’ll be working with us with a few lucky 1-to-1 students this year and we know our families are going to love her as much as we do! If you want high-energy teaching for your learner - Chloe would be perfect!

Summer Group Sessions

Our group holiday sessions have been a total hit! Whether our learners were solving pirate clues to uncover hidden treasure, or tackling maths and literacy missions in a Minecraft-inspired world, every child has enjoyed their sessions fully engaged, confident, and having FUN!

These fun Summer sessions are about connection, creativity, retaining and building core skills in a low-pressure, high-energy environment. These sessions have included a mix of Maths and English activities to keep our knowledge maintained over the Summer.

September Timetable - how to get involved...

We’re so excited to share our updated schedule of group sessions and 1:1 availability for the upcoming Autumn term. It’s really important to us to group children according to their stage (not their age), to ensure that every child is matched with learners who learn similarly. This means that our sessions are interactive and accessible for each and every child. Our small groups are small for a reason - so that every child can thrive.

All of our sessions are perfect for those who learn differently, need a confidence boost, or just love hands-on learning with a twist!

Spaces are limited, so if you’d like to secure a spot or to find out more, drop us an email at info@lighthousetuitionsouthwest.co.uk , we’d love to help you find the perfect session, and tutor, for your child!

Fun things to do!

The summer holidays are a great chance to rest, recharge… and sneak in a bit of fun learning too! Here are some light and playful ideas to keep little minds active over the break:

  • We’ve made a fun wordsearch for you to join in! (To practice that lowercase/uppercase recognition - but, shhh!)

  • Turn household chores into games. This could be adding up the shopping, or timing a tidy up on the clock... there is maths everywhere!

  • Get outdoors! Try water patio painting or writing a story about the animals that you spot living in the garden.

  • Create a board game, obstacle course or draw treasure map with instructions for a friend to follow.

The National Tutors Conference!

At the end of July, Sophie went to the National Tutors Conference in Coventry - a brilliant event full of workshops, ideas and inspiration. A real highlight was The Neurodivergent Educator session. We came away with fresh strategies and a reminder that learning never stops – for us or our students.

Colouring In Competition!

We’re so excited to announce our colouring competition winners - Archie, Spencer and Seb! Each of them will be receiving a Smyths voucher and we couldn’t be prouder. The creativity, colour and personality in every entry honestly blew us away. We were SO impressed by a further two though so we had to have them as runners-up - Ada and Tayler-Rose! Your entries were absolutely brilliant and we’ll be delivering a little chocolate treat your way as a thank you!

We honestly wish we could have picked them all… every single piece was so special. A huge thank you to everyone who got involved, shared, voted and helped spread the fun - we’ve absolutely loved it! You can find the pictures on our Facebook Page!

A message from our founder, Sophie!

What an exciting term it’s been for Lighthouse!! From launching new group sessions to welcoming brilliant new team members, things are growing in ways I never imagined when I first started out as Sophie Hocking Independent Tuition.

One of the biggest milestones is coming up... opening the Lighthouse Tuition Hub in Ivybridge - our very own space (outside of my home!) It’s something I’ve dreamed of for a long time: a calm, creative and welcoming place where all children feel supported, especially those who don’t always get the help they need in school. This space is for them - a place to feel safe, to thrive and to enjoy learning in a nurtured way that works for them. The new premises is in the town centre of Ivybridge, at 1 Exeter Street, we can't wait to open our beautiful and cozy learning hub!

We’d love you to come and see it. Our launch party is on Monday 18th August and everyone is welcome! Please let me know if you can come so I can prep your child a party bag!

Thank you, as always, for your encouragement (especially earlier in the year to take the leap!), your kind messages and your belief in what we do. This is more than just a job for me and I couldn’t do it without your amazing support. Every session, smile and lightbulb moment reminds me exactly why I started this journey to help children that are otherwise being left behind.

With love,

ree
